As If There Weren't Enough Reasons To Love Him

Have I mentioned he's handy?

He bought us a house, and...well...hmmm...it needs some work.  Structurally it's great.  Cosmetically it's pretty bad.  Icky, icky wallpaper.  Ancient carpets.  Horrible linoleum floors.  Countertops that really must go.  And cabinets that are in desperate need of some paint and new hardware.  And, the yard is straight out of Sleeping Beauty.  A pair of clippers (possibly a chainsaw) are in order.
Despite all of this, I love it. Is that strange?  I mean, in my head I see the house we're turning it into. Admittedly, this love might change once I actually move in.  I'm sure the reality of living in an unfinished house with a two year old is going to be a bit rough.  Luckily, though, I think Stephan makes a pretty cute handy man...I'm convinced that will make up for having to look at tarps and painter's tape all day.

  1. aww fantastic, you really will treasure your home as it will be a true symbol of your love for each other and all of the hard work will be so worth it! Hehe I love a man doing a bit of DIY Tim's attempts at flat pack furniture are pretty hilarious though, kinda like hugh grant crossed with Mr Bean... xxx

  5. the thought of moving into a new perfect house upon arrival SOUNDS awesome, but i can't imagine how anticlimactic it would be once your furniture arrives. these are memories you're building too. (i'm such a nerd.) i dunno, i love laying down at night and having twilight thoughts about what our next house project will be. (i'm sure terry does not appreciate them though.) btw, i had to turn down the brightness on my computer monitor because the happiness from your blog was blinding me. ;)

  6. Oh, renovations can be such a pain, but really worth it in the end.

I was so hesitant to let Tom tear up our kitchen (how was I going to feed our family that whole time??), but now I love, love, love everything he did.

Sounds like you guys have your work cut out for you, but at least you'll be working on it together. :)

  7. What a wonderful surprise to find out about your beau! Can't wait to hear more about your adventures together.
It sounds like we have the same house.
I have one bit of advice...get a steamer for your wallpaper. We have a ton of wallpaper in our house and it can be such a pain to remove.

  9. love this post.
handyman husbands are the BEST thing God ever created.
And then He goes and makes them CUTE on top of it! What more could a girl ask for!!!??

As someone who has been there and done that in terms of house projects and living in the chaos, just hold on to your britches. It's stressful and fun and frustrating and magical. You ARE making memories. What a special time in your life Made! I am SO glad I can read about it and feel like a small part. (even after all these years and miles of separation ;)

    love you

  12. I hear you, my prince has just bought us a castle which needs much loving. We move in a couple of weeks and I foresee much painting, replacing of flooring, updating of kitchens and bathrooms, and that is just the beginning.

Good luck with yours, at least your prince is handy, mine - not so much!
