Our sweet, spunky, delightful Sophia is three!
I cannot believe it. I'm pretty sure I say that every birthday for every kid, but seriously! Three? She was a baby just yesterday, and now she is a self proclaimed "big girl".
We had her party last weekend, and it was a total blast.
My mom decorated the cake...
And plenty of hugs and kisses and smiles...
There were even games...
Months ago Sophia told us she wanted a pink party. She had been a
pink devotee for so long that we figured we could go ahead and plan it.
Thankfully we did not succeed in too much overachieving, because a few weeks ago
she changed her mind. Purple slowly but surely replaced pink as her top
fave, and she wanted a purple party.
We gathered purple decor and planned a purple cake. Sophia requested a backpack, so I set about making one. We thought we were totally set. That is until Sophia announced the morning before her party that she wanted to be Dora for her birthday. And, then my brain finally wrapped around what she had been trying to tell me with all the purple and the backpack. The girl didn't want a purple party. She wanted a Dora party. Oh. my. Until googling it, I didn't even know what Dora's backpack looked like. The backpack that I had sewn for her ended up being doll sized instead of 3 year old sized, so I had already planned to get her a ready made one that day. A quick trip to Target yielded nothing, so I headed to Hobby Lobby and found enough stuff to cobble together a Dora backpack and map. I stayed up until 1:30 sewing it up and printing out a few Dora decorations.

This grin...I so love it. It was more than worth the late night and sore fingers.
She's been Dora ever since. I even heard Levi whisper to her as they were going to sleep one night, "Goodnight, Dora."
She also got a Fancy Nancy book and a pink and purple mama-made tutu, and my parents got her an adorable pink piggy bank. It's been a constant companion.
Happy Birthday to one of our most precious gifts! We are so very glad that you are ours, and we thank God for you every day.
