I Could So Start A Weekly Post On What This Kid Goes To Bed With

Yet another strange object to sleep with...

Yes, ladies and gents, that is a shovel that my little munchkin took to bed with him. Don't you ever get the urge to snuggle up with a shovel?
While we are on the topic of Levi sleeping...The other night I got into bed extra late. He stirred just long enough to go, "Vroom-vroom." And, then he was asleep again. Actually I'm not sure he was ever awake during that one. I'm pretty convinced that he was dreaming about cars, trucks, trains, and/or firetrucks.

Who Needs A Zoo When You've Got A Backyard?

As we were walking home a few nights ago we spotted this....
I know it looks like just a turtle, but do you see that hole in the ground that she's sitting on? She's laying eggs right next to my house! It was getting dark, and my camera is none too spiffy in the evening, so this was the best photo I could get. But, how terrifically cool is that?!! We put up a little fence around her eggs to prevent lawnmower damage. Now every time we pass the fence Levi says, "Ecks, ecks, turle, turle." (Eggs, eggs, turtle, turtle) And, yes he generally repeats everything twice.
The great Google tells me that land turtle eggs can take anywhere between 45 and 90 days to hatch. The amount of time is dependent on weather conditions, species, etc. That's a stinkin' long time to wait to see little munchkin turtles. Hope nothing digs them up first. That would be a real letdown. I'm kind of looking forward to the little critters emerging one fine day. Oooo...I so hope I'm there with camera in hand.

Enamored

Yesterday found us planless for the first time in ages. Oh, what a wonderful feeling that is. We decided it was high time for a jaunt to the science museum. And a jaunting we went. Levi was enamored with the aquariums...
And, with a certain little girl with an orange balloon who plopped herself down beside him...
They were in their own little universe pointing and gasping as the fishies swam by...
She was a pretty bold little munchkin...
She kind of won him over...
And then she was off just as quickly as she came...

That's A Boy For You...

Levi says, "Daw, daw. Keen Paypah. Keen Paypah." I obligingly hand over the crayons and clean paper.
I'm still wondering what the clean paper was for...

Window Box Sweetness

Three itty bitty eggs in an itty bitty nest....
and one itty bitty watchful mommy....

"Even the sparrow has found a home,
and the swallow a nest for herself,
where she may have her young-
a place near your altar,
O LORD Almighty, my King and my God."
Psalm 84:3

Levi Meets All Manner Of Beasts

I read Dera's post on the Hornworm attacking her precious tomatoes, and I thought, "Gee, I'm so glad mine are Hornworm free...nasty little buggers." And, then holes began to appear in my precious babies (to clarify I'm referring to my tomatoes here not my actual child who I promise is more precious than a tomato or even a whole bunch of tomatoes). I began to suspect but couldn't find the culprit. Oh, they are sneaky creatures. Then one day I was minding my own business, and my mom came to the door bearing a stick with this lovely but nasty Hornworm. Of course I grabbed my camera because really how could I not. But before I could get a good shot of the beast, Levi grabbed him and started playing with him. Guess what, peeps? These critters apparently bite. Levi let out a shriek and flung him to the ground. So this is the only picture I've got...the beast having been knocked around a bit in the dark under a magnolia tree where he will probably die...there are no tomatoes near this magnolia. I'd say good luck to him, but then that would in essence be wishing him back to my tomatoes. So, instead, good riddance! And, speaking of biting...Levi sustained his first snake bite yesterday. I've gone a whopping 28 years without any snakes getting that pleasure. My kid however only made it 20 months. For those of you who might be ready to panic at this point it was a non-poisonous snake, and my child actually inserted his finger into the snakes mouth. Oh. yeah. That's definitely my kid. God bless him! I think he learns things the hard way.

Happy Birthday Mom/Nana/Nanno!!!

Happy Birthday to an extra spectacular lady who answers to lots of different names. We love you so much!!

Levi loves her so much that he was willing to get hot, sweaty, and very dirty for her. Rough task for a little boy, I know. We were all so shocked. ; )

He "helped" move stones to make a path for her. He thinks she's the coolest Nanno on the block (not that we even have a block) just because she requested a truckload of stones for her birthday.

Sorry, Mom, I meant to do a post for you earlier, but the day got away from me. Hope you had a spectacular birthday. Enjoy your truckload of rocks!

Fresh and Ripe

Aunt Annie came into town this weekend, so of course we had to pick blueberries for her to take home. Despite the fact that we can't possibly pick all of the blueberries on our bushes, her suggestion was to plant more. She said that in all seriousness too. Like we need more.
There are so many of them we're swimming in a sea of blue.
And there not even all ripe yet!
Levi loves them. This makes a momma very happy....except, of course, during dirty diaper time. Yuck!
And, since it was HOT as hot can be we opted for outdoor air conditioning while picking.
Levi finally just plopped himself in front of the fan and called it a day.
Hope y'all are having a smashing summer.
Oooo...guess what? It's been raining lots and lots. With that icky awful drought, we were beginning to think rain was a thing of the past. The pitter patter of rain on the tin roof just makes my day.

I've Been Doing This...

"This" being Vacation Bible School....
My shadow...
It was wonderful and fun and fabulous, but now I'm tired...really tired. I also marked the insane number of posts in my Google reader as read. Sorry, gals. I love your blogs, and I promise I'll come back to visit soon. But, me. oh. my. I just couldn't get through them all. Hope y'all have had a smashing week and weekend. I should be back to fairly regular posting soon....once I recover.

Edit: Oops! Forgot to mention that our preacher's wife took the last pic of Levi under my legs.

A New Book And A Sweeping Story

His new favorite book...What Do Wheels Do All Day...Are you surprised? Vroom-vroom. I think boys are born programmed for this stuff!
On another unrelated note (have you noticed an inordinate amount of unrelated notes in my blog posts lately? What's up with that?)...Anyway, sometimes little boys are rambunctious and slightly difficult to deal with. And, then other times they do things that are so utterly and completely sweet they nearly have you in tears. A friend from church gave us a bunch of corn. We got a little assembly line going to get it prepped for freezing, and Levi's job was to throw the cobs out after they had been shucked and cut. He was faithfully working away until there was a lull in cob production. Boredom quickly ensued. So, I asked him to pick up the silks and husks that hadn't quite made it to the trash can. He walked off. My thought...Argh! Now it's going to be chase the munchkin time, and all I want to do is finish getting this pile of corn in the freezer!!! I called to him a couple of times, and just when I was about to go hunt him down, he reappeared...with a broom in tow.
He swept and swept...and then proudly walked over to the door to "sweep" the dirt outside (which is exactly what he sees us do). Not a single bit of trash made it into the trash bin or even outside, but the effort he put into trying to help nearly had me in tears.

It Rained!

Finally
.

.
.
I'm so happy.

This is the shortest post ever, but I just had to tell y'all.

Oh. My. If You Get Any Cuter I'm Going To Burst

He's discovered the cereal box. I knew I should have hidden it better. I generally only pull these out in moments of desperation...like in the middle of church or on long car rides. But, now he wants them all the time. That and "koookies", "choco", and "chip-ssss and sa-sa" (i.e. cookies, chocolate, and chips and salsa.) I promise I don't feed him that stuff very often (well the salsa, yes, but not the chips). The other day, he was chilling in his car seat listing these favorite foods. After each one he would emphatically say "Goo!" (i.e. Good!). I rolled my eyes and said, "What is it with you and junk food?" Big mistake. Now I don't hear the end of "jun foo" . "Jun Foo Goo!" Seriously, is this just programmed into these critters?

Birthday Weekend...Fabulous

I'm a pretty lucky gal. My birthday is only a couple of days away from Independence Day, so lots of celebrating and good food happen all in a row. This year was no exception.
Of course, I got to do lots of hanging out with this little munchkin...
And, on my actual birthday, we celebrated with sushi. Levi has a new found love of chopsticks.
And, Aunt Annie even graced us with her presence. We took approximately 25 photos of the three of us, and this is the best one. Hmmm....we weren't at our most photogenic apparently.
Levi licked the ice cream bowls. He's still undecided on which he likes best green tea or red bean. My personal favorite is green tea. Sushi would probably count as healthy eats except that I ALWAYS follow it with a big bowl of green tea ice cream.
Of course the boys at the table just had to turn their chopsticks into swords. I mean really what would dinner be without transforming eating utensils into weapons?
That's about the extent of the celebratory pics. I was a tad lazy with the camera this weekend. Probably because I was too busy eating. Saturday we scored some awesome fresh shrimp from the farmer's market. We already had plans for brick-oven pizzas that night, so we went with boiled shrimp for lunch. That evening we chased the pizzas with homemade blueberry pie. Shhh...don't tell anyone, but I might have had blueberry pie and ice cream for breakfast this morning. And, Levi might possibly have had the same thing. There's a reason I don't make pies very often...It's called zero self control. Oh. my. This evening I thought it was going to be a fend for yourself kind of deal. But, when I got home my dad met me in the driveway and told me dinner was on the grill. The biggest surprise, he was grilling VEGETABLES!!! Y'all, I've spent my entire existence believing that my dad was extremely limited in his culinary skills....bread, steak, and grits were about the extent of it. So, when we chowed down on out of this world good grilled portabellos and eggplant then finished it off with mouthwateringly fabulous grilled peaches, I was floored. I just love yummy weekends. Sigh.
Oh...and, I just have to add that when I told my dad that I didn't know he could cook vegetables, he actually tried to convince me that grits were vegetables because they were made of corn. Oh. me. oh. my. See why the real veggies were such a stunner?!

A Little Too Much Blue

We have cascades of very blue blueberries. More are ripening as I type. It's absolutely heavenly around here...or, it would be if Levi would quit eating them by the bucketful. He stands by the bushes and picks and eats, picks and eats. Then we get inside and he wants more. It's not that we don't have enough, it's just that when they come out the other end of this kid...oh. my. stars. Eeeeww! Gross! After two blowouts this morning I stuck him in a disposable. I hate to break it to him, but his blueberry eating is about to be seriously rationed. Mommy's ick-ometer is nearing overload.
So, while I kept him indoors (i.e. away from the blueberry bushes) he found other adorable ways of entertaining himself...the spinny chair is always a favorite...
And, the ever cute "Ay-O" (translation: "Hello.")
Side note: Tomorrow's my birthday and this weekend is the 4th of July, so I reserve the right to be scarce around these parts...or not. I'm undecided. Just thought I'd give sufficient warning, in case I drop off the face of the planet for a few days. Never fear...I'll be back! ;) Hope y'all have a happy weekend!!
